The Irish Tax Institute hosted a most interesting discussion on the balance of powers and taxpayer’s rights and obligations with guest speakers from the US and the UK on how complaints by taxpayers against the IRS and HMRC are managed in an independent manner.
With a panel discussion afterwards involving representation from Revenue, practitioners and CFE Tax Advisors Europe, the representative body of tax advisers in Europe, it will be interesting to see if there will be further developments in this area to give Irish taxpayers a more accessible and independent advocate/adjudicator to assist them in their complaints against Revenue’s actions or inactions.
